This section shall posthumously honor the brave Brothers &
Sisters who gave their all in the Line of Duty. We owe the deepest amount of
gratitude to these fallen Heroes.
JOSEPH BAHLINGER - November 3, 1924 - Fire Station No. 3 -
Died from electrocution at a house fire at 611 Hugh Street.
WILLIAM BANDT - February 13, 1928 - Fire Station No. 8 -
Died from electrocution at a pole fire at Harrison and Creighton.
ROSCOE WEHR - June 3, 1931 - Fire Station No. 9 - Died from injuries received
when Pump 4 and Ladder 2 collided enroute to second alarm fire at 130 West Main
Street.
THOMAS HAZELETT - June 2, 1936 - Fire Station No 11 - Died as
a result of injuries received when the 50-foot ladder he was climbing blew over
during a training exercise.
WILLIAM HIMMELEIN - June 2, 1936 - Fire Station No. 11 - Died
as a result of injuries received when the 50-foot ladder he was climbing blew
over during a training exercise.
LAVERNE M. STRODEL - January 16,1947 - Fire Station No. 9 - Died
of a cerebral hemorrhage while fighting a fire at 121 West Washington Blvd.
RAYMOND R. STEUP - January 23,1948 - Fire Station No. 7 - Died
as a result of injuries received when Pump 7 ran over him after he slipped on
ice at a fire at West Main Street and Mechanic Street.
JOSEPH TALARICO - March 5, 1952 - Fire Station No. 11 - Died
of a heart attack suffered at the station immediately upon returning from a
fire at 5002 Hanna Street (mutual aid).
EDGAR MILLER - October 29, 1952 - Fire Station No. 10 -
Died of a heart attack suffered at the station upon return from a fire run.
MICHAEL RAGER - March 22, 1972 - Fire Station No. 9 -
District Chief - Died from asphyxiation after falling through the floor at a
house fire at 8861 Maysville Road (mutual aid).
