 DICK E. MESSER, 73, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015. Born in Fort Wayne, Dick served in the Indiana Air National Guard 122nd Tactical Fighter Group from 1963 to 1969 as a jet engine mechanic and staff sergeant. He was a firefighter with the Fort Wayne Fire Dept. from 1968 to 1988 and received honors and commen-dations as Captain. He was an active member of American Legion Post 409, in Leo, serving in various positions. Dick served as president, vice president, and other board positions with the Fire Police City County Federal Credit Union. He was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed cars, animals and fishing. Dick loved his daughters and hanging out at the legion. Surviving are his daughters, Janis (Tim) Badgley of Fort Wayne and Susan (Christopher) Michaels of Kendallville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Messer.
