Kelly J. Gaugler, 66, passed away peacefully at Parkview Regional Medical Center from Bulbar ALS on October, 7, 2025 surrounded by people she loved. She was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on April 5, 1959, and is the daughter of Jean A. (Thomas) Green and Karl (Dixie) Gaugler.
She is survived by her mother and sisters Michele (Bob) Tierney and Ginger (Randy) Craigo; nieces, Stephanie (Shawn) Orrill, Hannah Gaugler; nephews, Nick (Nyssa) Tierney, Alex (Marissa) Craigo; and six great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by fathers Tom Green and Karl Gaugler; brother, Mitch and sister-in-law Cindy Gaugler.
Kelly graduated from Jimtown High School in 1977 and attended Ball State University. After working at Elkhart General Hospital in the dietary department for many years, she became a respected and beloved firefighter with the City of Fort Wayne in 1985 and retired in 2012. She continued with her caring heart as a bus driver for GKB Schools touching the lives of many children who loved her.
Kelly dearly loved her family and many friends. She was an important member of the Garrett community for many years as a JAM Center volunteer, a cook at the St. Joseph soup kitchen, coaching girls softball, and much more. She enjoyed all of nature, traveling, and sports; but her passion was woodcarving.
The family would like to thank Sue B. for the devoted, loving care she gave to Kelly during this difficult year.
Kelly's motto was "LIFE IS GOOD!," and she was a bright light in this world.
A celebration of life will be held at the JAM Center, 1200 East Houston Street, Garrett, IN, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to an organization of your choice.
